Carrying Out the JE Monthly Accounting Period
Close
Use this to carry out a Journal Entry Monthly Accounting Period Close.
Journal Entry is based on accounting periods – journal entries are processed per accounting period. This process closes the current accounting period, and is usually a month-end close.
When you run this transaction, the system displays all the current open accounting periods for all the companies and company codes, along with a flag for each open accounting period. You can set the flag for each period, which means that you want to close that accounting period for journal entry, meaning – no journal entries will be able to be processed for that period after that (for example, if you close November, journal entries will only be able to be entered for December).
You will usually run this at the end of the month, when you want to close accounting periods for that month. You can close the accounts for a single company code for a specific month, while leaving another company code open for that month.

Before you run this, it is important to realize that once you close an accounting period in JE, you cannot reopen it later. Please consider the effects of running this transaction before you run it. It is a good idea to only run it at the end of the month, and only after thinking about the effects that it has.
