Definition

The exchange type determines the default values for an exchange agreement and defines the type of outline agreement involved.

Note

You can define the exchange types and the associated default values in Customizing under Industry Solution Oil & Gas (Downstream) ® EXG ® Transactions ® Define exchange types.

All of the default values that were defaulted after the exchange type was entered can be subsequently changed.

Examples of Default Values

There are internal and external postings. The internal posting type is used to book material and/or taxes and/or fees to internal accounts. External postings are used to book materials and/or taxes and/or fees to the exchange partner.

The breakdown indicator is used in the quantity schedule to determine the duration of a breakdown period (for example, daily, weekly, monthly).

Using the breakdown indicator, the quantity schedule can be subdivided into schedule lines (for example based on months, weeks or other periods). Using the split indicator, you can determine the type of quantity schedule split you want for the quantity schedule.

Examples of Exchange Types

In a buy/sell exchange, the material and taxes are billed to the exchange partner. Fees can also be calculated or posted internally.

With a borrow/loan exchange, the material is only posted internally, which means that it is not billed to the exchange partner. Logical inventory is created. Taxes and fees that result from material movements are charged to the exchange partner.
