Procedure documentation Schedule a Process or Process Step  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can specify that a process does not start until a specific point in time or until a specific event or combination of events occurs in the system. Once a process has concluded, you can repeat individual process steps. You can also schedule the process step's restart for a specific point in time or so that it depends on an event.

Example

You can schedule processes so that they do not start until the operation mode of your system is switched from day to night operations. In this way, you can use your system resources for online processing during the day and then start processes when you have more work processes for background processing, which is usually the case with night operation.

Note

If you make the start of a process or process step dependent on several events occurring simultaneously, the events are always linked by the AND logical operator. You cannot link several events with the OR logical operator.

Prerequisites

You have accessed Customizing for Payroll and chosen Background Processing With HR Process Workbench to execute the Determine Counterevents for Events IMG activity.

You have created a process.

Procedure

...

       1.      Select the process you want to start and choose Edit ® Process ® Start/Repeat.

       2.      Choose Schedule.

       3.      In the Schedule Process <name> dialog box, select the tab page with the required event type and then select the required event.

You can use all of the background events, Workflow events, process events, and operation mode switches in your system.

On the Background Events, Workflow Events, and Process Events tab pages, you can select as many events as you require.

If a counterevent has been defined in Customizing for one of the background or Workflow events that you have selected, the system automatically takes it into account.

       4.      Save your entries.

       5.      Select the variant with which to start the selection program.

Note

At least one variant must have been specified for the selection program. This is possible when you edit a process model, for example. On the Maintain Process Model <name> screen, choose Goto ®Attributes. In the subsequent dialog box, choose Create Variant and create a variant for the selection program.

Result

The system starts the process as soon as the specified event or all of the specified events have occurred and/or the specified point in time has been reached.

If a counterevent occurs for an event, the Customizing settings determine whether the HR Process Workbench still starts the process or process step or not.

Example

You schedule the process to be dependent on background event A and for a specific point in time. Counterevent B is defined for event A.

Event A occurs but the specified point in time has not been reached yet. Counterevent B occurs. This undoes event A. The specified point in time is then reached. The Do Not Start Process if This Counterevent Occurs indicator in the Customizing settings for counterevent B determines how the HR Process Workbench responds, depending on whether the indicator has been selected or not:

§         If the indicator has not been selected, event A can reoccur. The specified point in time has been reached, so the HR Process Workbench starts the process.

§         If the indicator has been selected, the HR Process Workbench does not start the process even though the specified point in time has been reached.

Process control enables you to check the process flow.
