Function documentation Reporting Buffer  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

Performance for calling up reports can be improved by deploying the reporting buffer. This is because the reporting data stored in the reporting buffer has already been calculated and does not need to be read online from the applications. Another consequence of this, however, is that the data displayed in the report when the report is called does not have the current status. Instead, it has the same status as when the reporting buffer was filled.

Integration

Once activated, the reporting buffer is valid for tabular, hierarchical, and management reports as well as for change analysis when you display these reports online. When, however, you request the report as a task, the current data is determined as opposed to being read from the reporting buffer.

In the Web application Reporting, you can also make a setting (under Settings) so that the reporting buffer is not applied for reports displayed online. In this way, such reports display current data.

Prerequisites

You have activated the reporting buffer functions in Customizing for MIC under Reporting ® Make Settings for Improved Performance ® Reporting Buffer Settings and have made the settings for error handling and for deleting the buffer.

You have scheduled the program for filling the reporting buffer to occur regularly. You do this in Customizing under Reporting ® Make Settings for Improved Performance ® Fill Reporting Buffer ® Execute in Background.

Features

You create a reporting buffer in Customizing for MIC under Reporting ® Make Settings for Improved Performance ® Create Reporting Buffer for a specific timeframe. When a user calls up a report, the system reads the timeframe from the personalization settings and checks whether a reporting buffer exists for this timeframe. If no reporting buffer is found, the system reacts according to the settings made for the reporting buffer.

Activities

For more information about the administration settings for the reporting buffer, see the documentation on the IMG activity Reporting ® Make Settings for Improved Performance.
