Setting the Data Volume to be
Copied
Redundant data is kept on the middleware for the Mobile Asset Management scenario. This is necessary to minimize the synchronization times and to only copy the actual data changes to the mobile devices.
In this step, you can also determine how data should be copied. This decision depends on the amount of data in the productive system. The setting provided by SAP limits the amount of data that is replicated to the middleware. This limit amounts to 400,000 records, which is equivalent to roughly 100,000 functional locations or pieces of equipment. The mass data replication can be activated by adjusting the SyncBO on the middleware. For more information, see the Installation Guide.
Refer to SAP Note 708842 if you want to use the option for mass data replication for Mobile Asset Management 2.0.
Not all the data in the back-end system is required for the mobile processing, therefore it does not all need to be available on the middleware. While a middleware of adequate dimensions is capable of accommodating all the data, this is not always advisable.
As of Mobile Asset Management 3.0, we recommend the use of mass data replication, and we supply this as a basic setting. Back-end controlled replication is new in Mobile Asset Management 3.0. This type of replication can greatly improve performance for very large quantities of data. For more information, see the Installation Guide.

This step is optional. It can be advisable to skip this step for the first test if there is not a very large amount of data on your back-end system.
You know what data is required for the mobile processes.
You can limit the data volume in Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service under Mobile Asset Management ® Make Settings.
