Deletion of Obsolete Selection Sets
Use
You can delete old selection sets that are no longer needed. It is recommended that you run the deletion program periodically to remove unneeded sets from your database to free up storage space.
Activities
The deletion process involves two steps:
Any amount of time can pass between steps 1 and 2. During this time you can set or remove deletion flags from sets as often as needed. Once you use the Reorganize Selection Sets transaction to delete a set, though, you can no longer undo the deletion.
To mark a selection set for deletion, use the Change Selection Set transaction and check the deletion flag. This prevents the selection set from being used in allocation runs. If you attempt to perform an allocation run that includes a flagged selection set, the system generates an error message.
When using the /AFS/SSET_REORG program, you can display a list showing:
You can also restrict which selection sets are to be deleted by choosing:
You can select one or more sets from the list and then set the deletion flag for all of them at once, or remove the deletion flag from the sets.
In the same transaction, you can delete one selection set at a time. (For safety reasons, it is not possible to delete several selection sets with one button click.) The system then checks to see if the selection set is still used in an allocation log or a parallel ARun batch job definition. If so, the system prompts you to remove the selection set from those programs before you can proceed with deletion. If the selection set is not used anywhere, the system will display a message confirming that the set will be deleted.
