Function documentation Long-term and Short-term Lot Sizing Procedure Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use this function to split the lot-sizing procedure into a short-term or a long-term period. This means that you can select one lot-sizing procedure in the near future and a different one in the distant future.

Features

You can apply lot size indicators at material-level and SKU-level, like Scheduling and Number of Periods to long-term/short term lot-sizing. You can also deactivate maximum lot-size and minimum lot-size in the long-term.

Activities

You must do the following:

Define the valid from date of the long-term lot size area in the group box End of the short-term period/start of the long-term period via the following indicators:

       Period Ind: Long-term Lot Size

       Number of periods

Calculate the beginning of the long-term period by taking todays' date and adding the number of periods in the future. The long-term planning period then starts on the next complete period.

Note

You must define a maximum MRP period for materials that are planned using the short and long-term lot size in the Define Maximum MRP Period screen. This will help to include the materials in planning after a certain period even if no changes relevant to the planning run have occurred. This avoids a situation where order proposals created with the long-term lot size move into the short-term period because no changes relevant to MRP have occurred for that material.

A material that is planned on a regular basis must also be provided with an MRP type that contains the indicator for regular MRP.

You must also do the following in Customizing:

To make the short-term/long-term lot-sizing procedures work for AFS, you must maintain entries for controlling the lot-sizing in AFS Customizing by choosing Production  ® Material Requirements Planning  ® Planning  ® Lot-Size Calculation  ® Check Lot-Sizing Procedure.

Choose MRP Lot Size and ensure that following indicators are specified for short and long-term period:

       Lot-sizing Procedure

       Lot-size Indicator

       Numberof Periods

       Scheduling (Optional)

       Check Minimum Lot Size (Optional)

       Check Maximum Lot Size (Optional)

To make the short-term/long-term lot-sizing procedures work for AFS, you must maintain separate entries for short and long-term lot sizing in AFS Customizing by choosing Production  ® Material Requirements Planning  ® Planning  ® Lot-Size Calculation  ® Define Lot-Sizing Procedure for AFS.

For this you must maintain the following columns:

       MRP lot-sizing key (Column LS)

       Lot-sizing procedure (Column LS)

       Lot-sizing indicator (Column LI)

       Function module name

Note

By activating the Customizing for short-term/long-term lot-sizing procedure, AFS MRP selects one lot-sizing procedure in the near future and a different one in the distant future. You can use the lot-sizing procedure to determine how the system is to calculate the reorder quantity during MRP.
