Your customer can register/log on to the online store from the Workplace or via the Internet. You control which online stores a customer can access via the authorization group in the master data of the online store (in Customizing: Logistics – General ® IAC Product Catalog and Online Store ® Online Stores) and by entering one or more URLs on your homepage. You control how and when your customer will be prompted to register/log on via the customer administration profile in Customizing.

If the customer is to log on right away, customers that have already made a purchase from your online store can log on with their customer number or e-mail address and their password. Since the grid and price determination are customer-specific, it is advantageous to have your customers register/log on right away so that they see the grid values they are able to order and the price information that is valid for them in the product detail screen.

New customers can see an overview of the product range without registering. They will see grid values and price information displayed in the product detail screen that are valid for the reference customer of the online store. If you allow new customers to register in the online store, they will be prompted to register at the latest when they want to place an order. The new customer then enters their address data, means of communication (telephone, e-mail, fax), and their country of origin. Using this data and the data relevant for sales and distribution taken from the reference customer, a customer master record is created in the R/3 system. The customer then receives a customer number and enters a password which they can change at any time.

Note

When creating the customer master, you can use a user exit to import any further relevant data, in addition to the data mentioned above.

Viewing the Product Range

The online store is divided into different shops. The customer can select different product groups within a shop to have an overview of the corresponding product lists. Depending on the settings in the product catalog, you can assign text, pictures, and sound files to shops and products.

Note

Search functions help customers select the product they want. They can, for example, display a list of products that fall within a specific price interval or they can enter the name of a particular product. They can start the search either from within a shop or from the shop overview, and choose whether the search is to apply only to a specific shop or to the entire online store.

Product lists can be sorted according to various criteria.

The customer can go to the product detail screen from the product list to see additional information on each individual product:

The customer will then be able to see a description, picture, and hear a sound file, as long as you have stored these in the product catalog.
If the product is an AFS material, the grid values valid in Sales and Distribution will be displayed. Then the customer can choose among various display options of the dimension values:

We recommend only choosing the display of grid values in a listbox for those materials that only have a few grid values.
The display of grid values in up to three listboxes containing the values of each respective dimension is dynamically structured. When the customer selects a dimension value, only those dimension values will be available in the other listboxes, that can be combined with the selected dimension value to form a valid grid value.

Note

Only use these two display variants for individual purchase orders where only a few grid values will be ordered. This is because each individual grid value must be selected and put into the shopping basket separately. The following display variants are suitable for large purchase orders.

Displaying grid values in a table enables the customer to select several grid values and to transfer all of the selected grid values to the shopping basket at the same time. One can sort the dimension values in the table in ascending or descending order with and .
Displaying grid values in a grid enables the customer to select several grid values and to transfer all of the selected grid values to the shopping basket at the same time.

If varying prices exist at grid value level, they will be displayed in a separate grid.

Caution

Categories cannot be selected in the online store. If you work with categories and have specified prices dependent on the categories, the prices displayed and the actual prices could differ when you assign categories using the user exit. If you have given a customer special conditions and they do not log on before they select the products, but rather at the end when they want to place the order, they might see different prices than those that you had agreed on.

The customer can trigger an availability check for all of the selected grid values if you have permitted this by making the appropriate settings in Customizing (Profiles for Product Presentation). Symbols indicate which grid values are available, not available, or partly available. The estimated delivery date will only be displayed in the quotation or sales order confirmation if materials are available. After the customer has seen the product range, they can transfer certain quantities of the desired grid values to the shopping basket and from there they can request a quotation and order the products.
