The
Planned Independent Requirement
business object enables the processing of planned independent requirements (PIRs) and PIR items.PIRs are used to support planning for additional product demand. This demand is not customer or sales order driven, rather it is planned in response to business and market factors.A PIR may consist of a quantity of product from a particular supplying location, and planned for a specific date. Alternatively, a PIR may consist of multiple PIR items, effectively outlining a schedule of product quantities planned for consumption over multiple dates. After a PIR has been created, its quantities are consumed by different customer requirements, such as sales orders or purchase requisitions. The type of order consumed by a PIR is determined during customization.PIRs are subject to planning versions and models.
There is no explicit locking logic implemented in PIR operations. If the same PIR is changed by parallel users, then the most recent change overwrites the other.
The following prerequisites must be fulfilled:
SAP SCM ES as of 5.0 SP06, SAP SCM as of 5.1 SP03, or SAP SCM 7.0 SP01 must be installed.
You must have the authorization to display or change PIRs to use operations in this business object.
The
Planned Independent Requirement
business object and its operations can be used in conjunction with SAP Demand Planning. If Demand Planning is used, a demand plan must first be released to SNP before PIRs can be changed or cancelled.
The
Planned Independent Requirement
business object and its operations can be used as an alternative to Demand Planning.
The consumption parameters that apply to PIRs are managed via customizing settings in SAP SCM. These settings affect parameters such as the requirement strategy (consumption mode) and consumption date range.
Although a non-SAP system can be used for calculation of the demand forecast, the model and version must be specified in SNP. The product and supply planning areas of the PIRs must belong to the model for the specified version.
It is recommended that the MaterialSupplyAndDemandTypeCode element (
Material demand as result of demand forecast
) be associated with the ATP category FA (
Planned Independent Requirements
). Although it is also possible to create additional ATP categories, this requires additional customization and ongoing maintenance.
