Adopting or Saving a Simulation Version

Use

You can adopt the planning data from the simulation versionthat you are currently processing in interactive scheduling (for example, on the DS planning board ) in the planning version, or save the changes in a simulation version without changing the planning version.

You can use the Save as function to save an existing simulation version under a new name, for example, before performing any planning steps that you cannot reverse or which are liable to yield unpredictable results. This means you can easily retrieve an already existing, good planning result.

Features

Adopting the Simulation Version

The system adopts the changes – as far as possible – in the planning version. Due to the fact that the planning data in the planning version might have changed in the meantime (due to the confirmation of operations, for example), the system does not simply copy the simulation version into the planning version, but merges the planning version with the simulation version. During this merging process, the system only adopts planning data from the simulation version in the planning version if the planning situation in the planning version does not have priority. The following have higher priority, for example:

  • Confirmed operations

  • Deleted orders

  • Changed order quantities

  • Orders changed in SAP R/3

    Example Example

In the simulation version, you have rescheduled an operation to another date/time. In the meantime, the operation is confirmed in the planning version. If you adopt the simulation version in the planning version, the confirmation of the operation has priority over the rescheduling; that is, the change of date/time is not adopted in the planning version.

    End of the example.

    Note Note

If you have already adopted a simulation version in the planning version, the other simulation versions for the planning version are usually no longer suitable to be adopted in the planning version again. It is still possible to look at these simulation versions. However, further adoption would not produce the expected results. Therefore, you should delete obsolete simulation versions as soon as possible.

    End of the note.
Saving the Changes Without Changing the Planning Version

The system stores only the changed data in a simulation version. You can continue to edit these changes at a later date with the DS planning board, and if necessary, you can incorporate them in the planning version.

Save as

If you choose APO Planning Board -> Save as on the DS planning board, you can:

  • Save the current simulation version under a new, different name.

  • Save the current simulation version under another already existing name. In this case, the already existing simulation version is overwritten.
