Effects of Quantity Increase If Lot-Consolidating Heuristic Used The following example shows how, depending on the settings for the product and its components (lot-size, planning procedure), a quantity increase in the sales order may impact the planning and confirmation of the sales order if you are using a heuristic that consolidates lots, such as SAP_PP_002, instead of the heuristic SAP_PP_CTP that is provided for CTP purposes.
You are using a resource that is scheduled finitely. In the product master of product A to be checked, you have set a lot-for-lot order quantity with consideration of a maximum lot size of 5 pc. You use heuristic SAP_PP_002 (planning of standard lots) instead of the recommended heuristic SAP_PP_CTP or SAP_PP_003.
The end product is to be available at the end of the order.
The following figure shows how the resource is loaded before the CTP check:

A sales order is created for a quantity of 8. On the basis of the lot-size setting
maximum lot size
of
5 pc
, the system creates two temporary planned orders (one order for 5 pc and one for 3 pc) and schedules them finitely.

After the sales order is saved, scheduling is reinvoked. The system makes no changes to these two planned orders even after the complete delivery requested by the customer.
The system subsequently increases the sales order by 1 to 9 pieces. The availability check in SAP APO finds the already scheduled quantity of 8 pieces and instructs production planning to procure the missing quantity of 1. Production planning creates a new (temporary) planned order for 1 pc.
You choose complete delivery and save the sales order.
The downstream scheduling changes the planning result in APO because, according to the lot-size setting, the lots for the quantity 3 and the quantity 1 should be consolidated to form one lot with the quantity 4. Unfortunately, no suitably large slot is available on the finitely scheduled resource. The system therefore schedules the new order with 4 pc at the end of the queue on this resource:
The confirmation date calculated in the CTP check can no longer be adhered to.
Note
To avoid these undesirable effects, you should use heuristic SAP_PP_CTP or SAP_PP_003 instead of SAP_PP_002.
