SAP F&R requires logistical rounding profiles for requirement quantity optimization to round quantities to multiples of a unit of measure, for example, or to switch between units of measure.

Integration

  • You assign the rounding profile in the transportation lanes for products. On the SAP Easy Access screen, you choose Start of the navigation path Forecasting and Replenishment Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Supply Network Next navigation step Maintain Transportation Lane for Products End of the navigation path.

  • You can import rounding profiles. For more information, see Inbound Interface for Rounding Profiles.

Prerequisites

To perform rounding, you must have defined the rounding parameters in the profile for requirement quantity optimization. Rounding must be active in the basic settings of the profile. The tables below illustrate how the Rounding Type and Rounding Mode parameters affect rounding behavior:

[The quantity calculated within the absolute value brackets ("| ... |") is always used as a positive value, for example, | -10 | = 10.]

The system uses the largest possible unit of measure as the order unit.

Always prioritize rounding up over rounding down

The system always tries to round up to a unit of measure. If this is not possible the system rounds down.

Features

  • You can define rounding rules that specify the percentage from which the system rounds for a given unit of measure. You can specify threshold values for rounding quantities up and down. Based on these rules, requirement quantity optimization determines which of the permitted units of measure is most suited as the requirement quantity.

  • You can use zero rounding. It determines what happens when the rounding result is zero and no purchase order can therefore be created. You can choose which of the following rules you want the system to use:

    • Do not round to zero

    • Round every possible rounding unit down to zero

    • Only round the unit of measure with the smallest base unit down to zero

Example

Pallets and boxes are possible rounding units. Rounding shows that the order quantity is so small that it will not fill a whole pallet. The system rounds down to zero, which means nothing is ordered. You have the following options for zero rounding:

  • If you select the rounding mode in which SAP F&R rounds every possible rounding unit down to zero, no purchase order is created because the system rounds the rounding unit pallet down to zero.

  • If you select the option in which SAP F&R only rounds the unit of measure with the smallest base unit of measure down to zero, the system cannot round down to zero, as the unit of measure pallet is not the smallest possible unit. The system checks whether a box can be ordered. If so, it orders the box; if the quantity is too small for a box as well, nothing is ordered, because no smaller rounding unit is defined.

  • If you choose the option that SAP F&R cannot round down to zero, the system orders a box.
