You can use this business function to enhance simulation capabilities of SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO) in the following ways:

  • Some master data objects (PPM, transportation lane, location, and location product) are extended with version-dependent fields.

  • You can carry out mass updates of all planning version-dependent fields of the master data objects.

  • The Copy Planning Version (/SAPAPO/VERCOP) and the planning version copy section of the Model and Version Management (/SAPAPO/MVM) transactions allow you to select the master data object entries you want to copy from the source version to the target version within one model.

  • Simulate variants of production process models (PPMs) or production data structures (PDSs) based on planning version-dependent or time-dependent parameters.

Features

Planning Version Copy

The Copy Planning Version (/SAPAPO/VERCOP) and the planning version copy section of the Model and Version Management (/SAPAPO/MVM) transactions have been enhanced so that you can choose from two copying modes. In the full copying mode, the system copies version-dependent master data resulting in new version-dependent entries for all master data elements, all orders, and all SNP and DP time series. In the partial copy mode, the system provides you with several options to specify exactly what kind of data you want to copy. Version-Dependent Master Data

Some master data objects (PPM, transportation lane, location, and location product) are extended with version-dependent fields. You can use the version-dependent fields to simulate your supply chain. For more information, see Additional Planning Version-Dependent Fields of APO Master Data.

You can also perform a mass update of all of the version-dependent fields on the SAP Easy Access screen, under Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step General Master Data Functions Next navigation step Mass Maintenance End of the navigation path.

PPM Variants Based on Planning Version-Dependent and Time-Dependent Parameters

You can define production process model (PPM) variants based on planning version-dependent and time-dependent parameters. This allows you to simulate PPM creation and maintenance differently for different planning versions. For more information, see Simulating PPM Variants.

PDS Variants Based on Planning Version-Dependent Parameters

You can simulate planning version-dependent variants for production data structures (PDS) based on activities, modes, and capacity requirements. You can also edit the PDSs after copying the active planning version PDS (along with any activities, modes, or capacity requirements) to an inactive planning version. Mass Maintenance of Production Data Structure

You can update a large volume of PDS master data simultaneously, without having to change individual objects manually. Time-dependent planning parameter (TDPP) values can also be changed using the mass maintenance feature even if they belong to the active planning version.
