Batch
The differentiation of a product based on various specifications or characteristics. A batch does not have any master data attributes. The system stores all information as characteristics (for example, country of origin or expiration date).
Note
Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) also supports batches without classification.
Batches are managed centrally as a master data system in an ERP system. The batch level must be set to material or client. Batches at plant level are not supported by EWM.
The ERP system distributes batches to all connected EWM systems.
You can create batches (in inbound delivery processing and in master data maintenance) and change batches (in quality inspection and master data maintenance) in the EWM system. As soon as you make changes to the batch master data, all other connected EWM systems receive these changes automatically through the master data distribution.
Batch characteristics describe the technical, physical and/or chemical properties of a batch.
Example
The batches of a particular car paint are specified by color value, viscosity, and expiration date. In the classification system, you store the characteristics corresponding to the properties color value, viscosity and expiration date, and assign the corresponding values to each batch.
If you change the values of stock-relevant characteristics in the batch master, the system automatically changes the batch stock in all connected EWM systems by distributing the batch master data.
The following fields are simultaneously stock attributes:
Country of Origin
(LOBM_HERKL
)
Expiration Date
(LOBM_VFDAT
)
Batch Status
(LOBM_ZSTD
)
You can restrict or un-restrict the usage of batches by setting the status in ERP or EWM. The ERP system then automatically makes a posting change (material document).
To be able to use the batch characteristics, you must set up the master data for the classification system (by maintaining class and characteristics and assigning class to product).
Caution
Note that if EWM is installed on an ERP system, EWM uses the classification from the ERP system. You must process the master data attributes using the corresponding ERP transactions. However, you can change your own characteristics in EWM.
Additionally, batches in EWM are used to handle valuation types of split-valuated products that are not batch-managed in ERP. To use such products in EWM, you must first execute the transaction Determine and Set Prices in ERP
or run the corresponding report /SCWM/R_VALUATION_SET
.
The report downloads the valuation types from the ERP system, which are then handled as batches in EWM.
Note
To avoid stock inconsistencies between EWM and ERP, you must run the report before the first goods movement of a split-valuated product without batches in EWM or before you create new valuation types in ERP.
To run the report, on the SAP Easy Access
screen, choose . For more information about the report, see Reports in Physical Inventory.
You can define a batch by the following data:
Product number
Batch number
Note
In case of split-valuated products that are not batch-managed in ERP, the batch in EWM corresponds to the valuation type in ERP.
The following standard characteristics can be used to control storage processes:
Country of origin
Expiration date
Batch status
