Use

Use this procedure to:

  • Select the Standalone Log Viewer as a default program on Microsoft Windows to open log files directly from the file system. Then, in the file system, when you double-click on a log file, the Standalone Log Viewer is started and the log file is displayed.
  • View log files in a tree or in a table in the overview of logs pane on the left.
  • View log files in the Standalone Log Viewer using drag and drop.
  • View the details of a log record on a separate screen.
  • Undock a log file and view it on a separate screen. Thus, you can compare two or more log files simultaneously on separate screens. You can also dock the log file and view it again in the Standalone Log Viewer.
Procedure
Activity Steps

On Microsoft Windows, select the Standalone Log Viewer as a default program to open log files directly from the file system.

You have to go through the following steps for a log file with a log file extension, for a log file with a trc file extension, and so on.
  1. In the file system, click a log file with the secondary mouse button, and in the context menu, choose Open With → Choose Program → Other.
  2. Browse to the <Drive>:\usr\sap\admin\logviewer-standalone directory, select the logviewer script file, and then choose Open.
  3. Select the Always use this program to open these files indicator and choose OK.

In the overview of logs pane on the left, view log files in a tree (the default view) or in a table.
  1. To view logs in a table, choose  View Logs As Table.

  2. To view logs in a tree, choose  View Logs As Tree.

    Note

    If you add a log file by choosing  Add a file, it will be added at the bottom of the tree. When you refresh the overview of logs by choosing  Refresh overview of logs, the tree is refreshed and the log file you have added appears in the corresponding directory in the tree.

  1. In the file system, select a log file with the primary mouse button.
  2. Drag and drop it in the tree overview of logs pane on the left.

    The file is added at the bottom of the tree. The log record details are displayed in a table in the right pane.

Undock a log file and view it on a separate screen. Dock it and view it again in the Standalone Log Viewer.
  1. In the log record view pane on the right, click the corresponding log file tab with the secondary mouse button.
  2. In the context menu, choose Undock <Log file number>.

  3. To dock the log file, on the screen with the undocked log file, choose  Dock.
