Getting Started with Visual Administrator

Visual Administrator provides you with general information about services, managers, libraries and interfaces. You can also use the tool to add, delete and configure properties, logging features and so on.

Visual Administrator Utilities

	Connect → Login	Allows you to connect to J2EE Engine. For more information, see Logging on to the J2EE Engine .
	Connect → Logout	Allows you to disconnect from J2EE Engine.
	Connect → Exit	Allows you to close the Visual Administrator tool.
	Tools → Properties	Ping Time (ms) - the ping time in milliseconds. Shows the interval at which Visual Administrator tool checks if the connection to J2EE Engine is alive. The default value is `1500` . The minimum value is `100` . Status Message History- the number of messages in the Status bar. The default value is `20` messages. The minimum and maximum values are `1` and `100` , respectively. Look and Feels - displays the installed look-and-feels and which one is currently used. You can change the current Look and Feel of the Visual Administrator tool by choosing one of the available modes: Metal, CDE/Motif, or Windows. You can also add a new Look and Feel by specifying its name and class. The class must extend the standard `javax.swing.LookAndFeel` interface. The default mode is Metal.
	Tools → Export	Exports the server configuration from the database. You can specify what kind of information is exported - global data or particular dispatcher/server data. The configuration is stored as an archive file under the /admin folder.
	Help → Help Help → About	Opens the Visual Administrator documentation in a swing window. Physically, It is localized on your file system as part of your J2EE Engine installation. Opens a window with information about the J2EE Engine version.
		Shuts down a selected cluster element. The icon is visible if a cluster element is selected.
		Starts a service on a particular element. The icon is visible if a service is selected. Note Some of the services might have special requirements to be started. For more information, see the documentation section, corresponding to the particular service.
		Stops a service on a particular element. The icon is visible if a service is selected. Caution Be careful when stopping services. A hard reference connection may exist between different services. When you stop one, all services that are referenced will also be stopped.
		Reboots a cluster element. The icon is visible if a cluster element is selected. Make sure that you are familiar with the J2EE Engine architecture and that you are aware of the consequences of rebooting a Java dispatcher or server process.
