Use this scenario variant to administer your SAP NetWeaver system landscape. For effective administration with as low a TCO as possible, we recommend that you use central tools from which you can access your entire system landscape.

Architecture of the Scenario Variant

For a central administrative approach, we recommend that you set up a “central operations hub”, a server on which SAP NetWeaver is installed for central monitoring administration, together with other tools that support the administrator in his or her daily work.

The scenario variant differentiates between typical administrative tasks such as starting and stopping, and tasks in the context of process automation (scheduling):

You previously performed typical administrative tasks in Java with the SAP Visual Administrator. However, this tool was version-dependent, meaning that you always had to use the appropriate version for your Support Package status. You could also only ever connect to exactly one SAP NetWeaver.

In the future, you will perform administrative tasks in the Java area with the SAP NetWeaver Administrator. This cross-version tool can connect to a freely-definable number of SAP NetWeaver systems (for example, the group of productive Portal systems) using JMX. The goal is to gradually transfer all important administrative functions of the SAP Visual Administrator to the SAP NetWeaver Administrator by the next main release.

Until now, you have usually performed the typical administrative tasks in ABAP in a decentralized way, in the relevant system with SAP GUI.

The SAP NetWeaver Administrator provides central access to the most important administrative functions using WebGUI. In this case, you only require the ITS that is already integrated into the central monitoring system to access AS ABAP with older releases.

Process automation in the context of job scheduling was previously only possible in the local system. With Job scheduling capabilities of SAP NetWeaver, you can now perform process automation centrally for an entire system landscape. This includes both the definition and scheduling and the monitoring of jobs.

Job scheduling capabilities of SAP NetWeaver should be installed as a standalone engine on the central operations hub. We plan to integrate this into the central monitoring system for the next main release of SAP NetWeaver.
