System Alerting
In the IT process System Alerting, when an alert occurs, the responsible people are automatically informed about the relevant problem using auto-reaction methods. Depending on the settings, this can be done by e-mail, pager, or SMS, for example. It is therefore not necessary for the administrator to constantly monitor the applications in which alerts are displayed.
Using the concept of central monitoring, these auto-reactions can be generated in a central location, meaning that even with a large number of monitored components and systems, it is only necessary to configure alerting in one central monitoring system.

This process is automatically performed by the system after monitoring is set up. The user does not need to take any action.
This process is part of the following IT scenario:

The monitoring infrastructure has generated a corresponding alert.

1. After an alert is generated, an auto-reaction method is started, if it has been configured.
These can either be in the monitored component itself or in the central monitoring system. There are a large number of methods available to you in the monitoring infrastructure, such as:
¡ Sending an e-mail
¡ Generation of an alert in SAP Alert Management. This means that all of the possibilities of the ALM are available to you for monitoring infrastructure alerts, such as recipient lists, freedom of choice of communication methods, or escalation rules.
2. The system determines the responsible recipients to send the alert information.
The ALM provides you with various mechanisms to assign users or roles to certain alert categories.
3. Sending the Alerts
The responsible people are informed. If you are using the ALM, the information about the alert is also displayed in the respective Alert Inbox, or optionally in the Universal Work List of the Enterprise Portal.
The responsible people have been informed about the problem.
