Shipment
A collection of goods that are transported together from one location to another.
To use this object, you must activate the business function Supply Network Collaboration 1 (SCM_SNC_GEN_1
).
With shipments, suppliers can organize their deliveries according to the transportation requirements mandated by the customer. Once the goods are ready to be delivered, all goods belonging to a shipment are loaded to trucks or other means of transport. The shipment can then be tracked for expected and unexpected events that happen on their way to the destination.
The shipment document forms the basis for planning, executing, and monitoring of shipments. A shipment document is created by grouping advanced shipping notifications (ASNs).
You can also work in a shipment collaboration scenario using an integration of SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) with SAP ERP. In this case, you can transfer data from shipment documents in SAP SNC to SAP ERP. In SAP ERP, inbound
shipments are automatically created, to which the SAP SNC data is then copied. SAP ERP displays the shipment number from SAP SNC in the External ID 1
field in the Change Shipment
and Display Shipment
transactions
(VT02N
, VT03N
).
Note
The Shipment Collaboration
component in SAP SNC offers less functions than the Transportation
(LE-TRA) component in SAP ERP (see the Constraints
section under Shipment
Collaboration).
