Scheduling or Rescheduling Operations with Pick&Drop

Use

The scheduling or rescheduling of operations is the core function of the resource planning table. You use this function to move operations from one date/time to another.

Note Note

In addition to the Pick&Drop procedure described in the following, you can use the Drag&Drop method to schedule or reschedule operations via the left-hand mouse key.

End of the note.

Prerequisites

  • For you to be able to schedule or reschedule an operation on a certain resource, the resource must be one of the primary resources for the operation.

  • You have used the Strategy function to define the desired detailed scheduling strategies that the system is to use for scheduling or rescheduling.

Features

You can select a period in the periodic view and use Pick&Drop to move all the operations for this period to a different date/time.

You can select one or more operations in the operation list and use Pick&Drop to move them to another date/time.

You can also use Pick&Drop to move operations between the periodic view and the operation list.

You can use the Drop function to copy operations that you have selected in the operation list or periodic view and adopted with Pick and there change the sequence of the operations. You then use Pick&Drop to insert the changed sequence back into the periodic view or the operation list. The system removes the operations from the clipboard.

If you copy operations to the clipboard which are also in the list in the clipboard and then change them in the operation list or the periodic view, the display in the clipboard is updated.

If you want to navigate between the charts without using the mouse, choose the following shortcuts:

  • To go to the displayed button in the navigation area, choose CTRL + Shift + F9.

  • To go to the header data, choose CTRL + Shift + F10.

  • To go to the periodic view, choose CTRL + Shift + F11.

  • To go to the operation list, choose CTRL + Shift + F12.

Activities

Copy Operations to Clipboard:
  1. Select a period in the periodic view or certain operations in the operation list.

  2. Choose Pick Operations .

The system earmarks the operations for copying to the clipboard.

  3. Invoke the clipboard in the navigation area.

  4. Choose Drop Operations to copy the operations to the clipboard.

The operations also remain in the operation list or periodic view. Changes you make to the operations in the operation list or the periodic view are also immediately effective in the clipboard.

  5. Select the operations you want to move and choose Move Up or Move Down to change the sequence of the operations.

The system moves the operations upward by one operation in each case.

You can also move the operations in the following ways:

Move the operations to the desired position while keeping the left-hand mouse button depressed.

Use the sort functions Sort in Ascending Order or Sort in Descending Order (standard list functions).

    Caution Caution

The system does not carry out any rescheduling when you move operations to the clipboard.

    End of the caution.
Insert Operations from Clipboard:
  1. Select the operations in the clipboard and choose Pick Operations.

The system removes the operations from the clipboard.

  2. Insert the operations at the desired date/time in the operation list or the periodic view via Drop Operations .

The system schedules or reschedules the objects in the order you specified in the detailed scheduling strategy.

    • Forward scheduling

The system forward schedules the operation starting from the start of the period in which it is to be inserted.

In the operation list, the system forward schedules the operation starting from the end of the previous operation. In the case of non-working times or downtimes, the system forward schedules the operation at the end of the non-working time/downtime.

If you move the operation to a gap, the system forward schedules the operation from the start.

    • Backward scheduling

The system backward schedules the operation starting from the end of the period in which it is to be inserted.

In the operation list, the system backward schedules the operation starting from the start time-spot of the following operation. In the case of non-working times or downtimes, the system backward schedules the operation at the start of the non-working time/downtime.

If you move the operation to a gap, the operation is backward scheduled from the end of the gap.
