  Creation of Inventory Balancing Areas

Use

To run the inventory balancing service, you must create inventory balancing areas. An inventory balancing area consists of locations that can swap stock with one another. This way individual locations can belong to multiple areas.

Procedures

  1. To create an inventory balancing area, you need a hierarchy structure. For this, you have the following options:

    • You use the hierarchy structure RELS_INVBALANCING_AREA that we deliver in the standard setup.

    • You define your own hierarchy structure in Customizing for Advanced Planning and Optimization under Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Hierarchy Next navigation step Define Hierarchy Structure End of the navigation path :

      • Choose Location as the object type.

      • Choose Extended Hierarchy Structure so that you can assign several other locations to one specific location.

      • Choose the table /SAPAPO/RELEHLOC for locations as the edge table for object relationship.

      • Under Hierarchy Structure Level Definition , you define the inventory balancing area as the first level and the location as the second level.

For more information, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) under Define Hierarchy Structure .

  2. You assign the hierarchy structure to the inventory balancing service. You do this in Customizing for Advanced Planning and Optimization under Start of the navigation path Supply Chain Planning Next navigation step Service Parts Planning (SPP) Next navigation step Inventory Balancing Next navigation step Inventory Balancing: Make General Settings End of the navigation path . You enter the name of the hierarchy structure you defined in step 1 in the Hierarchy Structure for Area field.

  3. You create an inventory balancing area by creating a location of type Geographic Area (1031) in the location master data.

  4. You create a hierarchy as part of the hierarchy structure on the SAP Easy Access menu under Start of the navigation path Advanced Planning and Optimization Next navigation step Master Data Next navigation step Hierarchy Next navigation step Maintain Hierarchy End of the navigation path and assign this to the active model.

    Note Note

You can only assign one hierarchy from a particular hierarchy structure to the active model. Therefore, you must define all inventory planning areas in one hierarchy.

    End of the note.

You enter the inventory balancing area that you created in step 3 as the first level of the hierarchy, and enter the locations that belong to the inventory balancing area as the second level of the hierarchy.
