Characteristics Substitution Procedure In a characteristics substitution procedure, you define the sequence in which characteristics with multiple value assignments are evaluated and in which characteristic values are substituted. In the substitution procedure, you define a substitution chain for each ATP characteristics view and each characteristic.
You specify the sequence in the substitution using penalty costs for each characteristic. If several characteristics are assigned the same costs, the sequence of the characteristic values in the chain is relevant. If you use several characteristics, the system multiplies the relevant penalty costs with each other and determines the sequence of substitutions using the relevant products.
The system uses the default substitution procedure without a description in each inclusive rule if characteristics are available.
You have created ATP characteristic views, and the characteristic values satisfy one of the following conditions:
You are using characteristics with fixed values
Movement data already exists with the values
The system has already performed an ATP check or simulation using the values

You use a characteristic “cut” and a characteristic “material”. For the cut, you enter the material consumption as the costs, and for the material, you enter the price per meter. The substitution sequence corresponds to the actual costs assigned in each case.
