Calculation of Total Weight and Volume of an ASN
This function allows you to calculate the total gross weights, total net weights, and total volume of an advanced shipping notification (ASN) from the total weights and total volumes of the referenced products or handling units. When you create or change an ASN, SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) allows you to calculate total weights and volumes automatically, but you can also override all automatic values with manual entries.
You have activated the business function Supply Network Collaboration 1 (SCM_SNC_GEN_1
).
If you want to use the automatic calculation of total weights and volumes, you have activated the ASN_SET_TOTALS
and ASN_SET_ITEM_WEIGHT_VOLUME
validation checks.
The system calculates the total weight and volume of an ASN as follows:
The system checks if units of measure are entered for weights and volumes of the ASN. If units of measure are entered, the system uses these units. If no unit of measure is available, the system uses the unit of measure of the first ASN item.
The system checks if an ASN item contains packed products (that is, handling units) or unpacked products.
For unpacked products, the system reads the gross and net weights and the volumes of the ASN item, converts them into the ASN units of measure, and sums them up.
For packed products, the system uses the gross weight, the net weight, and the volume of the handling unit as the basis for calculating totals
The system sums up the total weights and the total volumes of the ASN items and writes the results into the totals fields of the ASN.
Depending on whether and how you create or change an ASN, total weights and volumes are calculated as follows:
Case 1: Creating a new ASN using the Due List
screens
When you create a new ASN using the Due List
screens, the system automatically calculates the total weights and volumes. You can replace the automatic
calculation with a manual entry.
Case 2: Creating a new ASN on the Create ASN
screen
When you create a new ASN on the Create ASN
screen, the system calculates the total weights and volumes when you save or check the ASN, provided
the fields for total weights and volumes are empty. If you have already manually entered values for weights and volumes, the system does not overwrite them, but keeps the manual values.
Case 3: Changing an ASN
When you change an ASN, you must choose the Calculate Totals
pushbutton to trigger the recalculation of total weights and volumes. Alternatively, you can enter a value manually. If you manually enter values
for weights and volumes, the system does not overwrite them, but keeps the manual values when you save.
