A data medium exchange (DME) file that you receive – for example, an electronic bank statement from your bank.
First, you model the external format file as aformat tree in the DME Engine. Then, when you receive an incoming DME file, you convert it to the format defined by the format tree.

The R/3 System is then able to further process the file in MultiCash format. In the case of electronic bank statements, this could involveautomatic posting and clearing.
Creating Format Trees
To create a format tree for incoming DME files, follow thestandard procedure. Note, however, that a few of the steps contain information specific to incoming files:
