SAP@Web Studio

Purpose

The SAP@Web Studio is a PC tool for developing applications that are driven by the Internet Transaction Server (ITS), access data in the R/3 System and users can run from a Web browser.

You use the SAP@Web Studio to create, change and manage the files that make up the services used by the ITS to drive applications. When you have created and tested an application, you can publish the files to an ITS site and source-control them by checking them into the R/3 Repository.

Developing ITS-driven applications is a two-stage process that defines clear separation between business logic and presentation. This process takes place inside and outside the R/3 System.

Inside the R/3 System, you define the business logic

To do this, you create transactions, function modules or reports in the ABAP Workbench.

Outside the R/3 System, you define the presentation

To do this, you create all the required ITS files in the SAP@Web Studio.

Where you define the dialog flow depends on the ITS implementation model you are using to develop your application:

If you are developing a screen-dependent application based on Web Transactions, you define the dialog flow in the screen flow logic of the underlying dialog transaction in the R/3 System.

If you are developing a screen-independent application based on ITS Flow Logic, you define the dialog flow in flow files, which you can create in the SAP@Web Studio.

Integration

If you are using the SAP@Web Studio to develop ITS-driven applications that access data in the R/3 System, you also need:

The ITS

To connect the R/3 System to the Internet, test and publish applications, and allow users to run them from a Web browser, you must install the ITS

The R/3 System

The ITS requires an R/3 System, which is Release 3.0D or higher.

If you install the SAP GUI for HTML, your R/3 System must be Release 4.0A or higher.

Features

The SAP@Web Studio contains several features that support the development, testing and source-controlling of the services used by the ITS to drive applications.

There are wizards for defining sites and, depending on the ITS implementation model, creating service files, HTML templates and language resources.

To edit and debug ITS files, the SAP@Web Studio provides the following tools:

Source code and visual editors for HTML templates

Grid control editor for displaying and editing context data values used in HTML templates
Layout preview for HTML templates

Source code and visual editors for flow files
Source code editor for JavaScript files

Grid control editor for editing service files and language resources

When you have completed the design and development process, you can use the SAP@Web Studio’s testing, file publishing and source control facilities to:

Test new applications by running them directly in a Web browser

Publish the files that make up applications to an ITS site

Source-control the files that make up applications by checking them into the R/3 Repository

Nota

The SAP@Web Studio is a flexible, integrated development environment that allows you to develop ITS-driven applications outside the constraints of the R/3 System.

You can also develop ITS-driven applications by implementing services inside the R/3 System. To do this, you use the Web Application Builder in the ABAP Workbench.
