It is sometimes not clear to which profit centers data should be posted based on the individual characteristics. In this case, you can use substitution rules to assign your data more exactly to profit centers.

In Profit Center Accounting, substitutions are especially useful for assigning sales orders. Consequently, you have the option of maintain substitutions for sales orders when you set up Profit Center Accounting in Customizing (see also Activating Substitutions for Sales Orders).

Substitutions can also be used for determining the function area if you are using the cost-of-sales method of calculating profits. For more information, see Calculating Profits Using the Cost of Sales Approach.

In exceptional cases you can use additional substitution rules in Financial Accounting or Controlling to determine profit centers or partner profit centers. For more information, see the documentation on Structure linkValidation, Substitution and Rules in the component Special Purpose Ledgers component (FI-SL).

For more about implementing substitutions, see CO and FI Customizing.
