Use

Before you create a warranty record, you must specify how the warranty should be used. For this you need the warranty type.

The warranty type specifies what type of warranty is concerned, that is, how it is used. The warranty type is assigned to an internal warranty category, which specifies whether the system user’s company is the guarantor or the warrantee.

Prerequisites

The standard system differentiates between the following types of warranty from the system user’s perspective:

Warranty type

Warranty category

Manufacturer- and supplier warranty

Warrantee (inbound)

Customer warranty

Guarantor (outbound)

In Customizing you can define the various warranty types that are used in your company and assign each warranty type to one of the two warranty categories. If you, as a system user, create a master warranty you must use of the existing warranty types for that.

Features

Every warranty type is assigned to a warranty category within the system. In the system there are two warranty categories, which specify the system user’s view of the warranty. The warranty categories have a fixed definition in the system and cannot be changed. The warranty category has the following two specifications:

·        Warrantee (inbound)

The warranty is issued externally, for example, from a supplier or a manufacturer. The observer is the warrantee.

·        Guarantor (outbound)

The warranty is issued by your own company and goes to a customer. The observer is the guarantor.

Note

The warranty category is set internally in the system and cannot be changed on a company-specific basis.

Example

A photocopier supplier sells you a device. The supplier gives you a warranty for the device. This warranty is noted in the system as a received warranty (inbound) under the Warrantee warranty type. (In this case the warranty type is Supplier Warranty.)

You then sell or rent the device to a customer and give this customer a warranty for the device. This warranty is noted in the system as an issued warranty (outbound) under the Warrantee warranty type. (In this case the warranty type is Customer Warranty.)
