Use

Structure packages have been introduced in the context of R/3 Enterprise. They form the top level in the package hierarchy and are used to define the conditions under which system components are decoupled.

Prerequisites

To create or change a structure package you need authorization for the activity 02 (Change) in the authorization object S_PACKSTRU.

Procedure

To create a structure package:

  1. Call the Package Builder (transaction SE21).
  2. In the Package field, enter a name for the package that complies with the tool’s Naming Conventions
  3. Within SAP itself, the name must begin with a letter from A to S, or from U to X.

  4. Choose Create.
  5. The system displays the Create Package dialog box.

  6. Enter the following package attributes:
  7. Short Text

    Enter a meaningful short text

    Application Component

From the component hierarchy, choose the abbreviation for the application component to which you want to assign the structure package.

    Software component

The software component describes a set of development objects that can only be delivered in a single unit. Later, you will assign all the main packages of the structure package to this software component.
Exception: Packages that will not be delivered to customers must be assigned to the
    HOME software component.
    Choose the appropriate entry.

    Package Type

    Choose Structure Package.

  8. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Save.
  1. In the dialog box that appears, assign a transport request.

Result

The Package Builder displays the attributes of the new package.

You have created an empty structure package, and can now define a package hierarchy. Continue by Creating Main Packages and then adding them to the structure package.

Example

BASIS, ABA, HR, APPL, APPL_TOOLS, and the Enterprise Extensions (EA-FIN, EA-HR) are all examples of structure packages that are delivered with R/3 Enterprise.
