KM-KW Documentation and Training
Purpose
The Knowledge Warehouse is an integrated environment for creating, translating, presenting, distributing and managing multimedia contents.
Implementation Considerations
The Knowledge Warehouse provides a number of tools and functions for supporting the management and transfer of knowledge.
It also permits you to use and change SAP training material and online documentation in the SAP Library so that you can
Integration
To provide a context-sensitive R/3 online help (application help), you can link Knowledge Warehouse contents with repository objects of the R/3 System.
Features
Three separate areas, each with its own content models for creating contents, are delivered with the Knowledge Warehouse. A fourth area (Management) is used to store various files containing help functions for editing documents, defining access to the contents, etc.
The Knowledge Warehouse supports all the tasks occurring when you create, translate, present and deliver multimedia contents. The Knowledge Warehouse functions can be accessed from three front ends:
SAPgui Front End
These components provide all the functions required for editing, managing and presenting contents. Most of these functions can be found in the PC-based authoring environment Knowledge Workbench. The following functions, however, can only be accessed from the SAPgui Front end:
Most of the management functions of the Knowledge Warehouse can also be accessed with these components. This includes functions for configuring the Knowledge Warehouse, controlling the contents creation process, managing authorizations, etc.
Knowledge Workbench
The PC-based authoring environment
Knowledge Workbench provides functions for most of the tasks connected with creating contents that are easier to use than those of the SAPgui front end. For example you can edit structures with Drag&Drop interaction techniques. The Knowledge Workbench also offers useful functions that are not provided in the SAPgui front end. For example you can:Web Browser
The Web Browser front end is used primarily to present contents. All the documents of the Knowledge Warehouse can be displayed in the Web Browser.
Contents of the Intranet Management area cannot only be displayed in the Browser; they can also be edited using a linked HTML Edit Control.
Special Components
There are two further PC components in the Knowledge Warehouse in addition to the three front ends:
Presentation Viewer SAP Show
The PC application SAP Show is a viewer for offline presentations of individual training courses that have been created with the SAPgui front end.
Offline Translation
Translation packages are created from the SAPgui front end and then edited with MS Word and MS PowerPoint. Both applications have been enhanced with special Add-Ins to handle the management data of the Knowledge Warehouse documents contained in the translation package.
