Architecture of the Telephony Connection
There are various possible scenarios for installing the SAPphone Server:
centrally on a telephony server, together with the telephony software and the TAPI Service Provider. In this case, the SAPphone Server does not have to be installed on the work center computers (physical units consisting of computer and telephone).
locally on each work center.
You also require TAPI and a TAPI Service Provider to connect your external software via the SAPphone Server. TAPI is delivered with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 2000.
The graphics below show two options for the client-server architecture. The telephony software in use determines which is the most suitable option.
Client-server architecture with TAPI Remote Service Provider:
Only the SAPphone Server is installed on the work center computers.
Client-server architecture with TAPI Service Provider:
In addition to the SAPphone Server, the TAPI Service Provider of the telephony software used has to be installed on each work center computer.
