Use

If you want to pack several different materials (for example, materials which only differ in color) in the same way, it is not necessary to create a packing instruction for each of the materials. Instead, you can maintain a reference packing instruction which all these materials use.

Procedure

  1. Create a reference material in the material master. This reference material represents all materials to be packed in the same way (= according to the reference packing instruction). Choose Logistics ® Material Management ® Material Master ® Material ® Create (General) ® Immediately, and enter all necessary data in the views Basic data 1 and Sales: Genera/Plant Data.
  2. Note

A reference material always belongs to a specific plant.

Maintain the reference material for all units of measure which the materials assigned to the reference material have as base unit of measure.

  3. Enter the name of the reference material which you created in the material master of all materials to be packed with the reference packing instruction (in the field Reference material for materials that are packed in the same way of the view Basic data 1).

Note

Do not make one of the materials which exist physically and are to be packed your reference material. You have to create the reference material in addition to the materials which are to be packed.

The system only displays the field Reference material for materials that are packed in the same way in the material master if you have set DI for the screen sequence in Customizing under Logistics General ® Material Master ® Configuring the Material Master ® Assign Screen Sequences to User/Material Type/Transaction/Industry Sector.

  1. Create the reference packing instruction like described in Create Packing Instruction. Select the item type R for reference material, and enter the description of the reference material.

Result

You have created a reference packing instruction, which you can enter as packing instruction in the corresponding determination record.
