Adjustments Following Upgrades

If you have already used sales and profit planning in previous releases (up to and including Release 4.5B) and would like to integrate the same settings again in the new Planning Framework, you need to note the following:

Convert your planning as soon as possible over to the new planning framework. The old transactions can still be accessed using transaction codes, but you should be aware of the fact that SAP may decide to discontinue their use in future releases.

For the changeover to the new screen, all elements in the planning screen need to be redefined (see Setting Up Planning Content).

The planning framework makes the plan structure check redundant. Since the planning methods can only be executed for a specific planning package, this means that only valid profitability segments can be planned for. For this reason, maintenance of the plan structure is no longer available in Customizing.

Changes to Manual Planning

The planner profile is no longer used. With the new planning framework, you enter most of the settings that you previously made in the planner profile into the parameter set for the planning method (Enter planning data or Display planning data). See the section Setting Up Manual Entry of Planning Data However, the user-specific view of planning - previously provided by the planner profile - is not defined in the parameter set. Instead, you define it using the personalization profile.

To facilitate the changeover from the planner profile to the parameter set and personalization profile, you can display the settings for the old planner profile by choosing Planning ® Planning Framework ® Aids for Changeover to the Planning Framework ® Display Planner Profiles in Customizing.

You can basically re-use old planning layouts by copying them to the parameter set. The layouts must nevertheless correspond to the planning level and planning package concerned. In other words, the characteristics in the general data selection, those in the lead columns, and those in the value columns need to match the characteristics in the planning level. Moreover, the characteristic values specified in the planning layout should match the values in the planning level and in the planning package. If this is not the case, the characteristic values in the planning level and in the planning package will hold.

To facilitate the definition of a matching planning level, you can choose Planning ® Planning Framework ® Aids for Changeover to the Planning Framework in Customizing and then perform the function Create Planning Level from Planning Layout . For detailed information, refer to the appropriate sections in the documentation.

The default parameters for the variables in a planning layout are no longer applicable in the new planning framework. In place of these parameters, you can enter characteristic values when you define the planning package.

To set the default parameters for a planning layout that uses Integrated Excel (that is, the settings for an Excel sheet template and a file description), select the function Settings ® Formatting in the SAP menu when you are using a planning layout for planning data entry or display.

Before executing planning, the system no longer calls up the variables integrated in the planning layout. Instead, the system uses the selections made in the planning level and the planning package to fill the variables with data. If you want planning to be defined with flexibility, you should define an ad hoc planning package instead of using variables.

Changes to Automatic Planning

The automatic planning functions are integrated in the planning framework as planning methods. Since they can now be used for specific planning packages, the parameterization has been changed. In the new release, you make the settings of the earlier variants by defining a corresponding planning level, a planning package, and a parameter set.

Some functions that used to be executed as part of an automatic planning function have now been made into planning methods that have their respective parameter sets, such as revaluation, valuation, or period distribution.
