Executing Inheritance Runs
Use
The summarization hierarchy is set up and the data summarized on the basis of the summarization fields determined in the inheritance run.
If you are using the Executive Information System (EIS), data from the master data fields of the summarization objects is transferred to EIS.
See
Transferring Data to EISThe inheritance run is a prerequisite for the summarization run and the data transfer to EIS, both of which you carry out separately.
Prerequisites
Inheritance is always per controlling area.
The project must be defined for project summarization using master data fields.
Projects activated for summarization using classification can be converted to classification using master data fields by means of program RCJCLMIG which you run in the Project System IMG.
Procedure
You can use highlighting to have the system use traffic lights to highlight particular nodes in a summarization hierarchy.
See
HighlightingYou can use the status selection profile to restrict selection to objects which meet the requirements for a particular status. For example, you can summarize the projects which have status "Released".
All the summarization fields from an earlier inheritance run for the selected objects are deleted. The objects are not then included in the next summarization run.
When the inheritance run is complete, the system outputs a list of all the projects processed. You can access the message log from the list. The message log lists any errors which occurred and information messages for the summarization.
The system redetermines the summarization fields for all objects. Otherwise, the system redetermines the summarization fields only for the projects where relevant master data changes have taken place.
Result
In the inheritance run, the system passes on the master data fields to the summarization objects, per the master data hierarchy determined.
The system assigns the same characteristics to objects which are not summarization objects as to the summarization object superior to them in the hierarchy.

A WBS element is flagged as a summarization object. Within the project hierarchy, activities are assigned to the WBS element and material components and production orders are assigned to the activities. All these objects inherit the master data characteristics of the WBS element.
When online inheritance is complete, the system outputs any messages which occurred.
