Use

When creating contents in an enhancement context, you can use different methods depending on whether and how info objects from other enhancement contexts or from the SAP standard are to be reused.

You only use new info objects in the enhancement context.

You also reference info objects from another enhancement context and/or create enhancement versions of such info objects. To do so the other enhancement context must have been entered as base enhancement context of the current enhancement context with an IMG activity. (See IMG activity Knowledge Management ® Settings in the Knowledge Warehouse system ® Development of info objects ® Contexts for version maintenance ® Enhancement chains).

You also reference info objects from another standard SAP context (e.g. 4.5B) and/or create enhancement versions of such info objects. The standard SAP context is defined by the base release of the enhancement (see below).

Prerequisites

To create information in an enhancement context, you must maintain the context parameters Enhancement and (Enhancement) Release and the enhancement Basis release with a customizing activity in the Knowledge Warehouse R/3 System. (See IMG activity Knowledge Management ® Settings in the Knowledge Warehouse system ® Development of info objects ® Contexts for version maintenance ® Enhancements).

Procedure

You can create and edit info objects in enhancement contexts with both the SAPgui frontend of the Knowledge Warehouse and with the Knowledge Workbench.

Reuse SAP Contents

The process with the SAPgui frontend is described below. The process with the Knowledge Workbench is similar, but the functions for maintaining R/3 links and for indexes (steps 9 and 10) are not available.

  1. You call the transaction SI80 in the Knowledge Warehouse R/3 System.
  2. You go to the maintenance of the area (e.g. Training), in which you want to maintain info objects in an enhancement context (e.g. Knowledge Warehouse ® Training ® Change).
  3. Set the enhancement context:
    1. the (original) language of the info objects
    2. the enhancement name and release for which want to editing info objects

Note

The enhancement name and release must be selected from a list of existing enhancements and their releases.

To display all existing enhancements in the Enhancement field, you must clear the Enhancement release field.

  1. Choose the folders in which you want to edit info objects. These folders can contain only enhancement context info objects, or also standard info objects for which you want to create enhancement versions and then modify them.
  2. You create the Info Object List for the selected folders.
  3. You create info objects as required, and structure the folder contents by putting the info objects in a (main) structure in the (enhancement) folder which contains the enhancement info objects. You can link to standard info objects by hyperlinks or by including them in structures.
  4. You create enhancement versions of the info objects which you want to use and change them as required in the (standard) folder which contains standard info objects.
  5. Note

If you enhance a structure from the Documentation area and remove content objects from them, you can destroy standard R/3 links. If the enhancement is to be displayed in the Application help of an R/3 System, you must overwrite any defective standard R/3 links with enhancement R/3 links.

  6. You integrate enhanced standard folder info objects in the enhancement folder with hyperlinks and structure links to these objects.
  7. You link info objects to R/3 Repository objects, e.g. a transaction, with R/3 links. This is only necessary when the information is to be displayed in the Application help of an R/3 System. If the information is also to appear in the SAP Library, create an enhancement-specific version of the SAP Library and put the main structure of your enhancement in it
  8. Note

R/3 links of the enhancement context are processed before the R/3 links of the standard context. This is only the case, however, if the enhancement context was registered in the system with an IMG activity.

  9. You create keywords for topics (content objects in the Documentation area).
  10. You check the contents and formatting of info objects, the hyperlinks between them, and the context-sensitive display in Application help.
  11. You release the info objects in the enhancement folder and the standard folder for translation and transport to other R/3 systems.

Do not Reuse Contents from Other Contexts

This procedure differs from the one above in that you only maintain Info Objects which were originally created in the enhancement and are not enhanced versions of Standard objects. The only exception to this is the SAP Library (a book structure in the Documentation area delivered by SAP): To display your information in the SAP Library of an R/3 System, you must create an enhancement-specific version of this structure and put the main structure of your enhancement in it.

Omit steps 7 and 8 in the procedure described above.
