Address list versions are the various lists of partners and their addresses which you create for a direct mailing. The system classifies this version as the mailing list for the direct mailing by assigning the standard version indicator to it. If you create other address list versions, you can reassign the standard version indicator to the version which you want to use as the mailing list for your direct mailing.

The address list plays a critical role in the success or failure of a direct mailing campaign. The address list versions offer you greater flexibility in selecting addresses for a direct mailing campaign as you can create each version using different selection criteria. You can perform several functions on address list versions which enable you to create a final address list which more accurately reflects the target customers and sales prospect for your direct mailing campaign. You can:

• Merge lists into one version regardless of the characteristics of the addresses (union)

• Create an additional version by selecting the addresses from two versions which have the same characteristics (intersection)

• Create an additional version by comparing two versions and selecting addresses from one version which have characteristics which addresses from another version do not have (difference)

When you perform these functions, you specify whether the results should be:

• Stored as a new version

• Replace the first version which is specified for the operation

In this way, you can expand or reduce the size and scope of your original address list.
