Since the OIW queries in a worksheet are always updated whenever the Excel worksheet is recalculated, situations will sometimes arise in the OIW Frontend when you need to deactivate the automatic recalculation in Excel temporarily.

It is especially important that you deactivate automatic recalculation when you plan to change several of the selection values for a query. If you do not, then the query will be executed each time that a single value is modified!

You can use the appropriate standard menu options of Excel to activate or deactivate automatic recalculation. However, you may find it more convenient to use the Autom. calculation on and Autom. calculation off functions that are included on the tool bar of the OIW Frontend for Excel.

You also have the option of manually triggering query recalculation. Excel provides standard short-cut key combinations for doing this. The <F9> key causes all the functions in all open workbooks to be recalculated, whilst the combination <SHIFT+F9> causes only the functions in the current worksheet to be recalculated. You can also update a single OIW query by selecting a cell in the query’s Result Area and then calling the Re-calculate query function on the OIW Frontend for Excel tool bar. However, this function will only work if automatic recalculation is turned off.
