Defining a Warranty Counter 

Use

There are time-dependent and performance-dependent warranty counters:

·        If the indicator for time-dependence is set in Customizing, then the warranty counter is time-dependent. In this case, you must create a characteristic of the same name, which has a unit of the “time” dimension, in the class system.

The system can use this to determine from the warranty start date and the value that was stored in the master warranty for this counter, whether the counter check is still valid for the key date.

·        If the indicator for time-dependence is not set in Customizing, then the warranty counter is performance-dependent. In this case, the following prerequisites must be fulfilled so that the system can perform a check:

¡        For this warranty counter, a measuring point must exist at the technical object.

¡        At least one measurement document must have been recorded since warranty start for this measuring point.

Prerequisites

Warranty counters are normally defined by your system administrator when he or she is configuring the system. If you have the necessary authorizations, you can use the classification system to create warranty counters.

Procedure

       1.      Create warranty counters as a characteristic in the classification system.

To do this, choose Logistics ® Central Functions ® Class System ® Master Data ® Characteristics Management.

       2.      Enter the name of the characteristic and choose Create.

The Create Characteristic screen appears.

       3.      Enter a short text for the characteristic in the Basic Data section.

Enter a numerical data type in the Format Details section.

       4.      Choose Continue.

       5.      Enter the number of places, the decimal places, and the unit of measurement for the warranty counter (for example, the unit Year for the Warranty Time characteristic).

       6.      Save the characteristic.

Only warranty counters which are specified in Customizing are recognized by the system as valid counter types.
