CCMS Agents
Purpose
The
Monitoring architecture provides an infrastructure to monitor your IT environment and its components. Monitoring data is stored in the shared memory of every server with a running SAP instance or a running agent.
Read and write access from the central monitoring system is possible in two different ways:
Agents allow you to:
CCMS agents are independent processes with an
RFC-capable interface to a central monitoring system and an interface to the shared memory.Implementation Considerations
You should use one of the three existing CCMS agents, according to the type of system that you want to monitor:
|
Agent |
Task |
|
SAPCCMSR |
Monitors components on which there is not an active SAP instance |
|
SAPCCM4X |
Monitors SAP systems from SAP Basis Release 4.X |
|
SAPCM3X |
Monitors SAP systems with SAP Basis Release 3.X using the CCMS monitoring architecture |
Features
The three CCMS agents have the following characteristics:
Monitors components on which there is no active SAP instance (such as log files, stand-alone databases or operating system components). SAPCCMSR is closely connected with the central monitoring system.

Improves the monitoring of SAP systems with SAP R/3 Basis Release 4.X or higher. This agent provides an alternative connection route to the monitoring information in the shared memory of a mySAP.com instance. As this alternative connection route no longer requires a free work process, it is independent of the error statuses of the SAP instance and therefore more robust.

For more information, see SAP Note 322075.

Allows the monitoring of SAP instances of SAP R/3 Basis Release 3.X through the CCMS monitoring architecture (SAP R/3 3.X systems do not have their own CCMS monitoring architecture).

All of these CCMS agents can load shared libraries, which deliver additional information to the central monitoring system. An example of this is an extension to monitor the Internet Transaction Server (ITS) and cached disk subsystems, such as EMC Disc Arrays (Symmterix).
