Use

For the transfer or measurement values and counter readings, you can work with interval documents.

An interval document is a special measurement document for which the transferred counter readings are compiled for a time interval. This means that the system uses the same measurement document for an object for the counter reading transfer for as long as a piece of equipment is installed at the same functional location or main piece of equipment.

Normally there is only one measurement document for each installation interval of a piece of equipment – the so-called interval document. During the transfer the system does not generate any more individual documents for the lower-level technical objects.

Example

A commercial aircraft is displayed in the SAP system as a hierarchical structure of technical objects (functional locations and pieces of equipment). It contains about 2,500 pieces of equipment, which are indivdually maintained using counter-based maintenance plans. Depending on the frequency of the recordings, in this example about 5,000 or so measurement documents are generated daily for each aircraft. With a normal stock of 50 to 500 aircraft, the volume of documents is such that present databases can barely, if at all, cope with them.

By using interval documents, the volume of measurement documents can be considerably reduced. It is thereby realistic to keep all the measurement documents for an airplane in a single database throughout its entire life cycle.

Prerequisites

Generate interval documents

In Customizing for Plant Maintenance and Customer Service you have activated the generation of interval documents for the counter reading transfer under Make System Settings for Measuring Points and Measurement Documents.

Note

For further information on prerequisites and peculiarities, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for the IMG activity.

In relation to the individual measuring point/counter, this global system setting has just one default character. You can, therefore, continue to configure individual measuring points/counters such that they are displayed in single documents for subsequent counter reading transfers.

Continue generating single documents

So that the system continues to generate single documents for a measuring point/counter for the counter reading transfer, you must deactivate the interval documents function for individual measuring points/counters.

To do this, call up the Additional Data screen in the master record of the counter, and undo the selection Transfer Generates Interval Documents in the group frame Transfer of Measurement Values and Counter Readings.

Features

Since the current interval document for a counter usually remains open until the equipment is dismantled, it must be possible to calculate the counter readings for a desired key date, if required. These are described as "virtual counter readings". You can use the calendar icon to change the key date on the Last Measurement Document screen. The screen then displays the last measurement document before the changed key date. You are informed on the screen that this is virtual document data.

When using interval documents, you also have the option of entering counter readings directly for the measuring points concerned, for example, to make corrections.

Change key date for counter readings

Choose Last Measurement Document and then This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Change Key Date.

Display intermediate statuses

Display source documents (for example, for verifying errors)

On the detailed screen for the measurement document, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text Display Original Documents.

The system displays the Source Documents for the time interval.
