The SAPterm data structure is "concept-oriented". SAPterm is compatible with commercially available terminology databases, which are also concept-oriented.

Concept-orientation means that a concept is an abstract linguistic entity. A concept is defined by entries in various languages.

A concept is a closed object. Concepts only have internal relationships, there are no relationships between concepts.

In contrast to a dictionary, you can search for the translation of a term in any language in a concept-oriented terminology database.

Concept-oriented terminology databases are particularly appropriate for managing technical terminology. It is less useful for managing a colloquial dictionary.
