Account assignment references are required for each subledger position and each class position in a securities account.

You can use the account assignment reference to determine in which G/L account the position is to be managed. You assign the G/L accounts to the account assignment references in the IMG activity Define Account Determination. You can control posting of the subledger positions in the general ledger via the account assignment reference for the subledger positions. You can control posting of the dividend payments, the interest payments, and the repayments for each class position in a securities account via the account assignment reference for the class positions in a securities account. You do this by making the assignment of the G/L accounts in FI dependent on the account assignment reference for the relevant account symbols (position and interest/dividend revenue).

You create the account assignment references independent of the valuation areas. You can have the account assignment references assigned to positions based on the valuation area and/or you control the account determination based on valuation area and account assignment reference.

Note

In contrast to the account assignment references in the operative valuation area, the account assignment references can also be independent of how the positions are managed in the general ledger accounts. This means that, in the parallel valuation areas, you can control the posting of the positions to general ledger accounts via the account assignment references - however, you do not have to do this.
