Verifying Checksums
Use
You verify
checksums to verify the integrity of the sequential files containing a data extract. You should verify the checksums for an extract file whenever you move or copy the file between different media.
Verifying checksums is especially important if you copy the file to a media on which it will be stored for long periods. After copying the sequential file to the storage media, you should copy it back to your system, and then verify the checksums for that copied file. If the checksums result in an error, you can re-extract the data before it is placed in the long-term storage.
You can also use checksums to verify the integrity of any extract that you suspect has been tampered with.
Prerequisites
Checksum calculation must be enabled: the option of calculating checksums must be available to the user, and the user must enable checksum calculation.Procedure
Verifying Checksums of All Segments
The system calculates and compares the checksums of all the segments in the extract file. It then lists the segments, and places a checkmark next to every segment that passed the check, and marks every segment that has not passed the test.
If checksums were not calculated for the extract you have specified, the system displays an error message.
Verifying Checksums for a Segment
If the checksum verification passes, the system displays a message confirming that the checksum is valid for the segment.
You can also obtain the same information from the Data segments statistics screen:
If the checksum verification passes, the system displays a message confirming that the checksum is valid for the segment.
