Purpose

When a storage location is HU-managed, each stock transfer creates a delivery from one storage location to another. If the HU-managed storage location is the receiving storage location, the system creates an inbound delivery. If the HU-managed storage location is the issuing storage location, the system creates an outbound delivery. Subsequent processing in WM is controlled, as up to now, using transfer orders for the delivery.

If both storage locations are HU-managed, the handling units are copied into the inbound delivery and can be put away there also.

If, at the time of the stock transfer, both storage locations have HU and WM management, stock transfers can only be made using the two-step procedure. Therefore, as a rule, all stock transfers should take place using the two-step procedure.

Process Flow

Stock transfer with the two-step procedure:

  1. First, an outbound delivery is created.

After the handling unit has been confirmed to the delivery and the goods issue posting for the delivery has been executed, the material is posted to stock in transit in Inventory Management (IM), and the handling unit is given the status In transit.

  1. The inbound delivery for the receiving storage location is created automatically.

The stock putaway takes place in the receiving storage location with reference to this inbound delivery. The material is posted from stock in transit in the storage location stock of the receiving storage location when the goods movement posting for this inbound delivery takes place.
