Use

Some states and local tax authorities allow employees to claim allowances and exemptions from their income tax. This information is entered here on Infotype 0210 and used to calculate the employee's income tax liability.

Procedure

  1. Choose Human resources ® Personnel management ® Administration ® HR master data ® Maintain.
  2. Enter the employee’s personnel number.
  3. Specify W-4 Withholding Information (Infotype 0210) in the Infotype field
  4. Enter the state or local authority in the Subtype field, and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.
  5. The Create W-4 Withholding Info. screen appears.

    Note

    Different fields will be active on the infotype depending on which authority you entered in the Subtype field.

  6. Enter the employee’s filing status and the relevant exemption information and amounts.
  7. Note

    If a limit on the number of allowances an employee may claim has been set by the IRS or other authority and entered in Infotype 0161 IRS Mandates, the IRS mandates indicator will be active.

  8. If you define the employee as exempt with the Tax exempt indicator, then you need to define the validity dates for the exemption in the Start and To fields.
  9. If the employee has requested an additional amount to be withheld from their pay, enter the amount in the Add. withholding field and define the calculation method to be used for the withholding amount.
  10. Save your entries.

Result

The employee’s State or Local Withholding Allowance Certificate details are recorded.
