A part of an R/3 instance.

The SAP server provides certain services.

Two types of service exist:

• Application server services
• Communication services
• Gateway server (G): Enables communication between application servers on the same or on an exernal system.
• Message server (M): Enables rapid communication between application servers within the same system.
