Recording Times

You can choose between two degrees of accuracy for the measurement:

High This accuracy level uses a platform-specific high-resolution clock. This resides in a special part of the host. This option reduces the probability of measurement results being incorrect. However, if you use high-resolution measurement, the maximum measurement interval is shorter. To activate high resolution, use the following ABAP statement:
set run time clock resolution high.

Low This option uses a lower resolution. Consequently measurement errors are more likely. However, low resolution has a greater maximum measurement interval. To activate low resolution, use the following ABAP statement:
set run time clock resolution low.

Setting the Accuracy from the ABAP Workbench

From the initial screen of the runtime analysis transaction, choose Settings ® Measurement accuracy…

Note

When you record times, remember that the absolute times returned are unreliable in the following circumstances:

On multiple-processor hosts (processor switch)

On single-processor hosts when the clock rolls over.

Clock Interval

The clock interval specifies the time in seconds before the clock rolls over.

To display the default clock interval, choose Utilities ® Interval… from the initial screen of the runtime analysis transaction.

Recommendation

You are more likely to obtain a representative runtime measurement if you measure your program several times and take the average of the times returned.
