Use

This function allows you to change the assignment of a material subject to batch management and its batches to a batch class. The existing characteristic value assignments remain the same

Note

The batch class is assigned to the class type 022 or 023, depending on the batch definition level (plant, client, or material level).

Integration

After a conversion has been released, you cannot change the old and the new class until the conversion has been successfully completed.

A material can only be assigned to one conversion at a time.

For batch classes, it is not possible to change the class assignment using engineering change management for the classification system.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be fulfilled before a conversion can take place:

There must not yet be any batches for the material.

After the conversion, a material with no class assignment receives the new class.

All batches that previously contained the old class receive the new class.

After the conversion, unclassified batches remain unclassified.

You make the settings for the class status in Customizing for the Classification System by choosing Classes -> Maintain Object Types and Class Types.

The new class can also contain additional characteristics.

Conversions do not alter the classification status.

Features

Conversions Online and in the Background

Call the transaction by choosing Logistics -> Central Functions -> Batch Management -> Tools -> Batch Class Conversions. You can then:

In this transaction you process and analyze conversions.

You can perform conversions online using the transaction, or in the background using the report RVBCR_CLASS_REPLACE.

Note

You can include any number of materials in a conversion. There is no timeout when performing conversions online.

Conversion Status

Conversions are divided according to the following statuses in the status overview:

Estimation of the Time Required for a Conversion

When the system checks a conversion, it also creates an estimate of the resources required for the conversion. The estimated value is shown in the status overview. This value should give you a rough idea of how long the conversion will take.

Documenting the Conversion

The conversion is documented in change documents for the material classification. To view the change documents, go to the material master record (Logistics -> Materials Management -> Material Master -> Material -> Display -> Display Current Status) and switch to the classification view by choosing Environment -> Change documents.

Authorization for Conversions

Using the authorization object M_MATE_CHC you can control which activities the user can perform for conversions.

The following activities are assigned to this authorization object:

You need this authorization to be able to flag a conversion for deletion. To actually delete a conversion from the database, you need authorization to delete conversions.

This authorization enables you to perform conversions using background processing.
