Additional Information for this Example

Work must be performed at a functional location on a regular basis. A maintenance plan is created that contains recommended schedules and maintenance orders for activities to be performed.

The maintenance tasks are provided externally. Work to be carried out is stored in the maintenance plan in the form of service masters (service descriptions).

First of all you create a maintenance plan for defining and scheduling the activities to be performed. The assigned maintenance item establishes the relationship with the system to be maintained and the activity plan to be used.

The system then suggests schedules for the maintenance plan, and you generate maintenance orders according to due dates.

When you generate a maintenance order, a purchase requisition is automatically created, triggering the external procurement process.

The purchase requisition is assigned in purchasing to a source of supply, and then converted automatically to a purchase order.

Work is carried out based on the purchase order. Services provided are entered in a service entry sheet and approved. After services have been entered, invoices from external companies are posted, with reference to the purchase order.

The maintenance order is then closed and settled.

Once the current activities are complete, the system checks for follow-up schedules and generates follow-up orders automatically based on due dates.

In this example, the maintenance plan refers to a functional location - a fixed component of the asset where various equipment can be installed and removed. The maintenance plan is not influenced by such tasks.

Alternatively, you can refer the maintenance plan to an individual piece of equipment that requires regular maintenance, irrespective of where it is being used at the time. No differences arise from the processing described here.
