Change Individual Master Data Fields

The order master data contains the "General data" group box. This covers 10 fields that are for information only and have no effect on the functions in the order. You can use these fields to store data important for describing the order.

For example: you can use the fields for order selection purposes. However, the system does not check whether the entry values are valid or consistent.

You can tailor the following fields in order master data maintenance:

Field name Data element Data type Field length Field descr. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------
USER0 AUFUSER0 CHAR 20 Applicant
USER1 AUFUSER1 CHAR 20 Telephone
USER2 AUFUSER2 CHAR 20 Person in charge
USER3 AUFUSER3 CHAR 20 Telephone
USER4 AUFUSER4 CURR 11 Estimated costs
USER5 AUFUSER5 DATS 8 Application date
USER6 AUFUSER6 CHAR 15 Department
USER7 AUFUSER7 DATS 8 Date work begins
USER8 AUFUSER8 DATS 8 Work ends on
USER9 AUFUSER9 CHAR 1 Indicators
Work permit
issued

Example

You want to rename the "Applicant" field in the order master data as "Color".

1. Define data element Z_AUFUSER0 in the Data Dictionary. Like the standard data element AUFUSER0, it must have data type CHAR and field length 20. Enter "Color" as the field description. "Farbe".
Then activate data element Z_AUFUSER0.
2. Enter the new data element in table AUFK for the field USER0. Then activate the table.
Field name Data element Type Length Short description
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
USER0 Z_AUFUSER0 CHAR 20 Color

Standard Settings

SAP prescribes the screen field descriptions, but you can modify them in your system.

Activities

To change a field description, proceed as follows:

1. Specify the data element for which you want to change the description.
2. Make the change and save your entries.
If you wish to use order classification, select " Choose and Generate Characteristics -> Extras -> Characteristics text from DDIC". This ensures that the system also displays the new names on the classification screen.

To change or extend field usage (for example: to obtain a validation table for a field), proceed as follows:

1. Define your own data element in the Data Dictionary. It requires the same data type and field length as the matching data element provided by SAP. Define the data element description and documentation (F1 help) required.
2. Activate the data element.
CAUTION
The data type and field length MUST be the same as those for the data element provided by SAP. If they are not, data conversion is not triggered when you update to a new release.
3. Modify the AUFK table, then enter the new data element for the relevant field.
Activate the AUFK table

Further Notes

Note that this procedure is a modification of the SAP standard. You may have to repeat a step when updating to a new release, or reproduce it using the appropriate tools.

1. Activate the COAS view.

Note on order printing

The system does not automatically include the changed field names in the order printing. To include them, choose Prepare for Order Printing.
