Value Assignment Screen: Default Values
Description
In Release 3.0, you can decide how the default values which you have
defined for characteristics in characteristic maintenance or class maintenance
are to be interpreted by the system.
There are two possibilities:
- The default values are interpreted as if they were initial values and
treated as if they had been entered by the user.
- The default values are displayed as actual default values. They are only
treated as user input once you have confirmed the values.
You make settings for default values on the value assignment screen of the
object allocation or find object functions. Choose function Extras
-> Default values....
You can influence how the default values are handled in the following
ways:
1. If you select the indicators
Enter and Copy, the default values
are displayed and treated as if they were user input. The characteristics
appear in a different color to show you that they are treated as user
input.
2. If you select
Delete instead of Enter, the default
values are not displayed on the value assignment screen and are not shown in a
different color if you select them. You can select the default values in the
same way as any other value.
3. The indicators
Enter and Remove apply to the default
values of all characteristics. If you only want to make these settings for
particular characteristics, you should proceed as follows:
a) Select the characteristics.
b) Choose the function Extras
-> Default values.
c) Specify whether the default values are
to be deleted or entered.
d) Select the indicator Only
selected entries.
4. If you do not want the default values
considered as user input, but want to see them as a default setting, select
Confirm instead of Copy.
The default values are still shown on the value
assignment screen but are not treated as user input. The fact that the
selected characteristics are not displayed in a different color shows that
they are not treated as user input. You must then select and then confirm the
values, as you would with other characteristic values. Only then does the
system regard the characteristic as having an assigned value. If the
characteristic is a required characteristic, you must select the default value
or some other value. If the characteristic is an optional characteristic, the
default values are displayed in the dialog box, but you need not select a
value.
You can only leave the value assignment screen if values have been assigned to
all the required characteristics, and if all the optional characteristics
which contain default values have been confirmed.
Further notes
If you have defined actions or selection conditions which involve setting a
characteristic value, it can happen that a characteristic with default values
automatically has values assigned to it due to the values assigned to another
characteristic. In this case, you do not need to confirm the values of the
characteristic manually. However, this also means that you must call up the
dialog box for this characteristic separately if you want to see which default
values have been defined for the characteristic.
